During research following the destructive 2004 forest fire near Kamloops, British Columbia, I photographed this object found by a family in the gravel outside their burned home. An aluminum engine component from a Ford Mustang had melted into the sand, taking the cast form of an ant’s nest.

This is abstract rendering is based on the concrete structure of an overpass I would drive under on the way to and from the studio in West Vancouver everyday.
